5 Pounder Temensis At "Oldman Spot" On Eupro Slow Cranking Lure

Yesterday morning supposed to meet up with Nelson at Lower Seletar reservoir. When I reached the destination I called him and found out he is going to be late and will reached here 20 mins later. Since I am using my old war horse rod “ Black hole S662 II ML" might else make use of the time to practice the “walk a dog lure” this a very good budget Korean made rod and is one of my favourite weapons. On my way down I met 2 Malay lurers and chat with them. They told me they were first time here, their usual fishing ground is at Pandan reservoir but unfortunately now it have been occupied by baiters and become less productive than before. It is sad to hear that and I understand this new fishing ground is open less than a year ago.
After awhile Nelson arrived and we move out to our “OIdman Spot”, reached there and received a call from our captain Derek and asked where are we going and he is keen to join us after his work. I send the location to him by using Iphone “what apps” share location function. After I start to cast out by my yo zuri, after several attempt there is no sign of temensis chasing the lure, I switched it to Maria flakes on my 3rd cast the lure got struck on to a log in the water. Try to retrieve it but in end I have to sacrifice my veteran fighter, sad to do that. I retied my FG knot and opened up my lure box and chose a bigger lure that I recently brought from Changi Pro tackle shop. The brand of this lure is Eupro, this is an American brand owned by a Chinese family who their surname is Eu and they wanted to produce Rod & Lure for professional angler. Surname “Eu” plus Professional “Pro” and you will understand why they named it "Eupro". After a few cast, disaster struck again, the lure flew towards the tree because of the strong wind. Two lures gone and still no take.
Retied my FG knot again and this time I decided to use the fly that Captain Derek bought for me as a gift.( thanks Bro). By the time
Derek arrived, ther is only one strike but I did not managed to set the hook properly and it got away with it. I was quite tired so walk over to chat with Derek and have a break. After sitting down, I was thinking where have all the fishes gone and suddenly remembered that I have not try the cranking lure yet, sometimes they are hiding in the deeper water, you need something to go deeper to make them feel threatened and they will attack.
I choose the Eupro cranking lure that I just bought it. On my fourth cast, I hit a baby temensis which is about 1.5 pound, this young fighter made a few acrobatic stun by jumping out of the water before I could bring it up, continue to cast and heard Nelson called said lets call it a day. When I retrieved the lure back in a slow cranking method I felt a powerful tug and allowed it to pull before I set the hook firmly into it’s mouth. I shouted, “wait, this one could be a bigger one" , the drag sound on my caldia kix 2000 start to scream, I have to hold on to the bending rod. after a while the fish swim up to the suface, we can see the beautiful colours under the bright sun light. I saw there is another fish beside her and told Derek and Nelson to cast out their lure and hope they can hook ther other one. When she came close to the bank I did not bring her up and let her mate staon so that both of them will have a chance to hook up her mate {adult temensis usaully come in a pair}". But he doesn’t seen to be interested with their lures. In the end, I have no choice have to pull up the fish up with my grip before she became overstress and this could harm the fish. Photo taken and I gave the fish a few push before releasing her back into the water. This fish may not be a monster but still one of the magnificent fighter. What a nice one to end today’s luring session.

Child “abuse”on fishing trip on 22/2/2011

Today supposed to do sea water luring but in end was dragged into another fresh water luring at Spot higher 2 because of our “baby fighter” Louis wanted to give a try there.
Louis is a 11 years old boy who was "piosoned" by one of our kaki who passed his rod to Louis after he noticed his bait was taken up, the line on the spool was almost peeled empty by the fish. Louis being a first timer, we all agreed not to help him and let him to battle the fish alone. We all know the fish is bullying him when we heard the screaming drag sound and saw the bending rod, he was totally lost and do not know what to do. All of us will cheering him and his dad Nelson went over to give him instructions on the drag srtting and rod holding position. After a while he kept saying in Mandarin " bu ke yi le, bu ke yi le, bu ke yile". We have a good laugh at his hilarous actions and after 15 minutes he was totally worn out but some how he still managed to land the 5kg giant snakehead. He became our youngest member and few months later he reached another milstone by hooking up caught a 3.2 kg marine catfish at sembawang sea on our boat.He also hooked up a 2.5 kg GT at Kyoto fishing paradise pay pond and won a 20 dollars voucher. We are training him to be a catch and release anglers and the future of sport fishing will lay on them

Today the catch rate was poor only a few juvenile and baby Temensis caught this is mainly due to “baiters and tapaoers” we saw 3 baiters coming in with black colour “L” size trash bags and we all know that this ground is gone for good. The authority should stop them by implementing license fishing to control this. They should review the size and location of their legal fishing ground. I believed all the legal fishing grounds are can only accommodate a small percentage of sports anglers in our homeland and these designated grounds are mostly located next to canoeing ground where the steel cables use to form the canoe lane will cross over to the legal fishing ground this had become an obstacle for us. To stop people from illegal fishing we must create enough facilities for them, most anglers do not want to go against our laws. The temensis in our country is well known to anglers from other country, if the authority knew how to capitalize it this can turn into a million dollars industries and this enable them to have the fund to setup a branch for license fishing. Anyway this is my dream to see it come true but the authority may face some other issue that I do not foresee it.

I realized that one of our kaki who is on the midst of turning into a baiter and tapaoer again, I would like to warn him if he do that he will be executed by us and the execution will be stinking him with live catfish since he mentioned catfish is a good bait for gaint snakehead, LOL.I hope I can "treat" him because he turn into a baiter again. This trip Louis managed to hook up one temensis by using our favourite Yo zuri crystal minnow GHBR 70 mm lure.

The distance through and fro from our fishing ground is 3 km and walking through the rough forest terrain is not an easy task for adult like us but no complaint from this boy. “Well done Lou” Regardless young or old, fishing is passion game for man and sometimes women too.

This week we are going to try some new spot recommend and hopefully this trip we can encounter some monster fighters to give us a good work out.

Tememsis missing in action

Went luring with Nelson, Edwin and Derek we decided to try out a few spot since last week our catches were good. We started out early in the morning and will continued till evening but this week the catch rate was bad, only small infant PB was landed. No sign of the big fighters, we tried different type of actions such as surface cruiser, diver, cranking and suspending but all doesn't seen to work, maybe today they have gone somewhere else for CNY visiting or loh hei party.
At our last spot, it was located at one of the highlands as we move in the sky started to turn dark. While we started to cast out, thunder begins to roar and later followed by lighting, we knew that is time to stop as we should not risk our life after all fishing is game, the game can be continue on another day as safety is our first priority. When we reached our cars, heavy rain started to pour down heavily, strong wind began to blow and you can see all the branches on the tree swinging looking at this situation we quickly hopped into Nelson's van. After 30 mins or so the rain became smaller and we decided to part from there. Along our way home, we saw many trees blown down by the strong wind and I told Edwin we were very lucky to walk out from the forest safely. This week the catches were too small to post, but somehow I have received some pictures from Edwin. These are caught during the Xmas week and would like to share with my fishing bro.

I am using my iphone to track our fishing spot

New Day luring at spot higher 1

New Year Day at spot higher 1

7 pounder temensis caught by member Derek

On New Year day at 6.30am my phone alarm ring, oh no! I'm late for the early morning luring session with my kakis. Immediately i called Edwin and he was also late no wonder he did not give me the morning call. I told him to get
ready and  i will be coming down in 15 minutes to pick him up. when i reached his place, he was not at the usual waiting point, called him and he told me that he is on his way down. The moment i saw him i started my 4 letter words, he apologised and told me that he was late because his stomach was not well. I feel sorry for me and quickly help him to load his gear into my car and then off we go to our fishing ground. When we reached there, we met one of our kaki Alan and he told us the rest of the gang is on their way to our hot spot. As we walk towards the fishing ground we met another Kaki Edmund and he introduced one of his friend Robin to us.
When we reached the fishing ground, i start to use the Maria flakes tocast out, after a few try the rest of the kakis kept pulling up juvenile temensis weighing between 1 to 2 pounds except Edwin and me still a big duck egg. I decided to stop as the place was rather small to accommodate all of us.
Suddenly I heard Nelson said Derek got a big one, I look over and saw his graphite leader rod bending down and the smooth screaming drag sound from his shimano stradic C14. we were all very excited as the fish was swimming near the rock, but he managed to let the fish swim out and change the directions that is away from the rocks and finally after a few minutes we can see the fish is getting tired and Alan went over to help him to lift up the fish and this one weighed about 7 pounds on the grip. Edmund noticed that I have stopped and he suggested that i should try the fly and he passed one of his fly to me. Immediately i get it tied and during the first and second cast i managed to hook up 2 juvenile temensis. Before I could continue with my third cast, we saw a blue & white van coming towards our direction, we decided to end the session and have a feast of roti prata for breakfast but Alan decided to continue with another eging session for green eye squid and we parted from here.

Today Nelson, Edwin and myself went to this spot we name bukit 1 & 3. At bukit 1 we hooked up a few baby temensis and 1 arowana. Photo taken and fish was released. We continued to cast out but no bite and decided to move to another spot (bukit 3). When we reached the spot, I noticed that the water condition was not bad and there is sign of bait fish swimming around. We start casting and move further in and when we reached the end there is still no bite. Nelson decided to call it a day and move back. Before moving off I decided to change my yozuri crystal minnow to  rapala x rap and as we were half way through, Nelson spotted some bait fish  and  chasing his yozuri crystal minnow.  when I was retrieving my lure, a huge pair of temensis was chasing my lure and when it took on my lure I set it quickly and fish is on. The fish keep peeling my line out and I have hold on to it. When it slow, I immediately try to regain some line back and after about a few good minutes of tag of war, I managed to overcome this papa temensis and lifted it up with the grip and it weighed  sightly more than 11 pounds.
While I was unhooking the fish, "FISH ON" shouted by our Mr "kool man" Edwin I saw Nelson's majorcraft slicer blending like a 'C' shape and I quickly put the papa temensis into the water and gave a few push before letting it go. I went over to Meslon and saw it was the other mama temensis that took on his lure while searching for her partner. It look HUGE, after a good fight I helped him to grip the fish up and this one weighed slightly more than 12 pounds WOOWHO

shiok men. Before we could settle down, this time it was our Mr 'kool man' Edwin got a hookup, this time round it was a smaller one which is about 2 pounds and after a short battle I helped him to lifted up the fish.
While I was helping Edwin to unhook the fish, a Japanese family came by ask Nelson for permission to allow their doughtier to take a photo with his fish. Photo taken and both fishes released. We were very happy to see fish swim away strongly and this  a good one to end for today luring session.
